Violence Erupts in Uruapan Amid CJNG Conflict

In Mexico, recent armed clashes have shocked the country, with criminal groups causing disturbances in the states of Michoacán, Guanajuato, and Jalisco. These acts of violence are seen as a violent reaction to attempts to capture leaders of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The Government Secretary of Michoacán has pointed out these disturbances as part of a landscape of violence that has affected several regions of the country.

Earlier this year, following the discovery of mass graves in Jalisco linked to the CJNG, Mexico's president, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced new measures to address disappearances in the country. Amid this spiral of violence, the city of Uruapan in Michoacán was also affected, with fires in stores leading to the temporary closure of Oxxo chain branches in the region.

In response to this crisis, the Public Security Secretary of Michoacán deployed its agents in collaboration with the National Defense personnel and the National Guard to restore order in the affected areas. The disturbances included clashes in Apatzingán, Michoacán, where members of the CJNG and Los Viagras exchanged gunfire with federal forces, set vehicles and businesses on fire, and blocked up to 17 roads.

In these armed confrontations, at least eight soldiers lost their lives and seven others were injured, highlighting the seriousness of the escalating conflict with the CJNG in Mexico. The situation remains concerning for Mexican authorities, who are trying to control the violence generated by criminal groups in various regions of the country.
