Carlos Manzo, the mayor of Uruapan, discussed the complex situation of insecurity and corruption he faced upon taking office. He emphasized that his administration is fighting against police corruption and abuses of authority. Manzo stated that upon his arrival, the police force was completely looted, ineffective, and had no patrol cars. He also mentioned that his predecessor, Ignacio Campos, used the police for extortion and illicit activities, leading the population to demand a change in government. Manzo described direct threats against him and his family, and pointed to the possible involvement of his predecessor's brother-in-law, who was linked to criminal groups, in destabilizing his government. He noted that Uruapan is a rich and productive municipality but has also been the scene of disputes between organized crime groups. Despite the resistance and dangers, Manzo expressed his determination to remain on the side of the people and fight for security in the region.
