Grecia Quiroz, widow of Mayor Carlos Manzo Rodríguez, will take over as President Municipal of Uruapan, reported Fabiola Alanís Sámano, president of the Political Coordination Board of the Congress of Michoacán. During an interview with the media, Alanís Sámano assured that the Legislative Power is ready to formalize the transition and guarantee the stability of the municipality after the violent event of the weekend. Alanís Sámano highlighted the importance of this process to ensure administrative continuity in Uruapan. “From the Congress, what we have said and maintain now is that we are here to collaborate with the stability of the municipality, to give the population a guarantee that things will continue to be done.” After legislative activities were suspended this Tuesday at the State Congress due to demonstrations in the Michoacán capital, it is expected that the procedure will continue its course in the Uruapan city council. The legal procedure began with the designation of the syndic as interim mayor by the city council. Subsequently, the State Congress was notified of the definitive absence of the mayor and the Board of Directors refers the proposal for the profile of the position to the Government Commission, which is headed by the party that won the municipal presidency in the corresponding elections, in this case, the so-called "Sombrero Movement". The agreement is submitted to a vote by the 40 deputies to determine who will head the mayor's office. To date, the Uruapan city council has not officially published the result of the council's work on its public websites. Others pointed out as possible candidates for the position, close to Manzo Rodríguez and members of his movement, are the current municipal secretary, Arturo Ramírez Rivas, and the head of Public Works, Esteban Constantino Magaña.
