The cabinet of President Claudia Sheinbaum presented the 'Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice' this Sunday from the National Palace. This government project is launched after the murder of Uruapan's mayor, Carlos Manzo, and aims to strengthen security in the state, as well as generate economic and social development for its inhabitants. At the beginning of the presentation event, the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, stated that 'the government of Mexico maintains a firm commitment to the security of Michoacán and to the right of its people to live in peace.' 'As part of the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice, we will reinforce the four axes of the national security strategy in the entity,' said the head of the SSPC. For his part, the Secretary of Defense, Ricardo Treviño Trejo, announced that starting tomorrow, 'an agile, flexible, and dynamic deployment will be materialized, which consists of employing 4,386 personnel currently deployed, and will be reinforced with 1,980 more elements who will arrive tomorrow in the state of Michoacán.' 'Operation Containment will also be applied, with 4,140 elements, to seal off the state of Michoacán so that criminal groups cannot enter or leave the entity,' he explained. All these actions are framed within Operation Paricutín, with a deployment of 10,506 elements from the Army, the Air Force, and the National Guard. Admiral Raymundo Pedro Morales Ángeles, Secretary of the Navy, reported that security and interdiction operations will be carried out in the entity with a force of 1,781 elements integrated into seven marine infantry companies; two operations sections in mining areas; five explosive device deactivation teams; five special operations teams; and, six intelligence cells. He also specified that operations will be carried out directly in three coastal municipalities: Lázaro Cárdenas, Aquila, and Coahuayana. Economic Development and Social Welfare The Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, detailed that the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice includes 12 axes of action that integrate security, economic development, and social welfare. The Secretary informed that, by instruction of President Claudia Sheinbaum, starting next week there will be permanent territorial presence in the municipalities of Michoacán. In this sense, representatives from various federal agencies will tour the communities 'house by house and municipality by municipality' to offer direct and comprehensive attention to the population, through the various programs and services of the Government of Mexico. The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, pointed out that the economic strategy will be key to generating jobs, increasing productive investment, and opening new opportunities in the state. 'The President of the Republic has entrusted us to triple the effort, because economic development is a substantial part of the plan to create jobs, increase investment, and open opportunities,' he indicated. Ebrard detailed that among the immediate actions, the consolidation of the Bajío Development Pole is contemplated, which he said 'is already very advanced' and will be accelerated to enhance its regional impact. Likewise, he announced the creation of a new agro-industrial development pole in the Uruapan region, whose work will begin immediately.
