Federal and state authorities in Michoacán conducted the arrest of Jaciel Antonio “N”, identified as a recruiter for criminal cells responsible for the murder of Uruapan's mayor, Carlos Manzo, which occurred on November 1st. Also known as “El Pelón,” the now-detected individual was located in the vicinity of a hotel in Uruapan, according to Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch. In a social media post, the head of the SSPC stated that the detainee was in charge of recruiting people at addiction rehabilitation centers, who later became involved in activities of sicariato and drug distribution in the region. Investigations point to Jaciel Antonio “N” as responsible for recruiting two individuals who participated in the murder of Carlos Manzo. The State Attorney General of Michoacán revealed that the material author of the homicide was Víctor Manuel “N,” a 17-year-old who was neutralized by one of the mayor's bodyguards while subdued, using his own weapon. Likewise, seven bodyguards and a presumed intellectual author identified as Jorge Armando “N,” alias “El Licenciado,” are under arrest and linked to process for qualified homicide. A posthumous letter attributed to Ramiro “N,” another presumed implicated, was found and presented by the Attorney General. In the letter, Ramiro “N” apologizes to his family for his participation in organized crime and denounces that he worked for “El Licenciado,” who coordinated the execution. ‘My love, when you read these lines, your eyes will fill with water, but forgive me, because I did things wrong… I will surely be dead because they will want to silence us,’ the document states. The murder of Carlos Manzo, which occurred in the middle of the Day of the Dead celebration on the main square of Uruapan, had a strong national impact due to the mayor being an open critic of cartel violence and having demanded support from Claudia Sheinbaum's administration to combat organized crime. The investigation has revealed that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) offered two million pesos for the murder and received leaked information about the mayor's movements. After the initial hearing, the detainees were placed in preventive detention, and the case remains under rigorous follow-up by the authorities. According to the governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, one of the bodyguards remains a fugitive from justice.
