The perception of security in the municipality has increased, according to an official. On the other hand, authorities in Michoacán have reported that since 2006 to date, 18 journalists have been murdered or disappeared in the state, and these cases remain unsolved.

The governor of Michoacán, Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, condemned the murder of journalist Mauricio Cruz Solís in Uruapan. A coordinated operation was launched with state and federal security forces to identify those responsible and bring them to justice. According to the governor, impunity is not tolerated in Michoacán, and anyone who commits a crime will pay.

The spokesperson for the state government, Carlos Torres Piña, issued a message of condemnation on behalf of the administration. The collective of journalists 'Ni uno más Michoacán' condemned the crime and demanded a clear and swift investigation, requesting that the journalist not be revictimized. They expressed solidarity with Mauricio Cruz's family and his colleagues in Uruapan.

The Attorney General's Office of Michoacán reported that journalist Mauricio Cruz was attacked around 10:00 PM near the Casa de la Cultura in Uruapan, a key city in the state. In the incident, another person was injured. The crime occurred shortly after a live broadcast by Cruz on Facebook in which he interviewed the mayor of Uruapan about a fire in the 'Tariacuri' market.

Mauricio Cruz had worked as a reporter for local newspapers and ran the media outlet 'Minuto x Minuto'. The Attorney General's Office was collecting footage from surveillance cameras to identify those responsible. On the other hand, a local deputy called for tourism to Uruapan, stating that 'even the bad guys are having fun' during these dates, while the municipal tourism secretary blamed the media for creating an image of insecurity in the region.
