In Veracruz, the ruling Morena party faces internal conflicts as they prepare for the upcoming municipal elections. The PT party is set to compete separately, leading to a fragmented political landscape.

Tensions Rise in Veracruz Politics Ahead of Elections

The leadership of Morena is considering moving to Durango and Veracruz to carry out electoral operations, as the ruling party is well positioned in Veracruz and it is predicted that they could win the majority of the 212 municipalities, including the most significant ones like the Port and Boca del Río.

On the other hand, the coordinator of the PT in Veracruz, Vicente Aguilar Aguilar, has stated that despite competing separately in the upcoming elections, there is no break with the 4T. The differences arose from the dispute over the distribution of power in the municipalities. The deadline to present coalitions in Veracruz has arrived and the union between both political forces is coming to an end.

The leadership of Morena proposed to the PT to head the lists in 22 municipalities, fewer than the 33 obtained in the previous election, which generated discontent and led to the decision not to establish an alliance for the upcoming municipal elections.

Tensions between the two political organizations were evident when the general secretary of Morena presented an alliance only with the Green Party. Furthermore, the coordinator of the PT in San Lázaro threatened to end the alliance in the Legislative Power.

At the national level, tensions between the leaderships of Morena and the PT are deepening, reflecting in the situation in Veracruz. In the municipal elections in June, both parties will compete separately as they failed to reach an agreement on the distribution of candidacies in the 212 municipalities.

Amid this scenario, the national leadership of the PT has announced that they will participate alone in the elections. It is expected that they could win around 30 municipalities, a figure similar to what they currently govern. They emphasize that the contest will take place without hostilities and each party will defend its position.
