Born on April 2, 1947, in Veracruz, Paquita la del Barrio stood out as one of the most emblematic figures of the regional Mexican genre.

Her family confirmed her passing with a message that read: "With deep pain and sadness, we confirm the passing of our beloved Paquita la del Barrio in her home in Veracruz, being a unique and unforgettable artist who will leave an indelible mark in the hearts of all who knew and enjoyed her music."

The cause of her death was not revealed. The artist, whose real name was Francisca Viveros Barradas, gained international fame with her song 'Rata de dos patas' in the year 2000 and became an icon for women. Additionally, she is known as 'the Queen of the People' or 'the Guerrilla of Bolero', and her songs often address themes against macho culture.

During her long musical career, which began in 1970, Paquita la del Barrio released hits like 'Tres veces te engañé', 'El consejo', 'Me saludas a la tuya', 'Las mujeres mandan', 'Viejo rabo verde', 'Hombres malvados', and 'Pobre pistolita'. She leaves behind three children from her two marriages.

The artist was awarded the Artist Trajectory Award at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in 2021, where her impact on Latin music over more than 50 years was recognized. From her early years, she showcased her musical talent by singing at school festivals and formed the duo 'Las Golondrinas' with her sister Viola in the 70s.
