Political Tensions in Veracruz Ahead of the Upcoming Elections

With the elections on June 1 approaching, tensions in Veracruz are rising. The prohibition of family candidacies by Morena creates a significant change in the electoral landscape.

Political Tensions in Veracruz Ahead of the Upcoming Elections

The ruling party has indicated that the Yunes family would be excluded from the competition for Veracruz Puerto, currently governed by Patricia Lobeira Rodríguez, wife of Senator Miguel Ángel Yunes Márquez. This announcement comes after confirmation by the president of Morena, Luisa María Alcalde, that direct family candidates will not be allowed in the municipal elections of Durango and Veracruz.

In Veracruz, the news has generated repercussions in the electoral structure due to the significance of Veracruz Puerto as one of the key cities in the state. Meanwhile, the more purist groups within the party are backing federal deputy Rosa María Hernández Espejo. Although the 4T scenario in Veracruz is not yet confirmed, tensions are rising as the elections on June 1 approach.

Some sectors of Morena believe that Patricia Lobeira Rodríguez faces a complicated scenario for these elections. It has not yet been determined whether she will run for the port or Boca del Río, another relevant city. Meanwhile, the PT plans to incorporate Morena profiles and improve its electoral standing in Veracruz.

In the opposition, the PRI and PAN have decided to compete without a joint alliance, while Morena will only unite with Verde. The PAN will not allow the Yunes to compete under its banner after supporting judicial reform, which would force them to seek another party to run. Therefore, it is expected that a new name will lead Veracruz Puerto.

Within the 4T, disputes are growing due to the rejection of important figures towards the Yunes family, a political group recently integrated into the ruling party. Additionally, former PRI member Pepín Rodríguez is another name under consideration, although he faces internal resistance. Among the favorites for the contest is local deputy Bertha Ahued Malpica, who is close to Governor Rocío Nahle and positions herself as a possible candidate.
