The Attorney General's Office of the State of Oaxaca (FGEO) reported the discovery of the deceased activist Sandra Estefana Domínguez Martínez and her husband, Alexander Hernández Hernández, who were reported missing on October 8, 2024. Following criminal intelligence work, the bodies of the victims were found in two graves in Santiago Sochiapan, Veracruz, on April 24, 2025.
In a statement, the FGEO confirmed the identity of the victims through forensic evidence. The investigations extended to the Papaloapan Basin region in Oaxaca and Veracruz, where significant findings were made in the process of seeking justice. The operations led to the discovery of the victims during a search conducted in a property between La Ceiba and Unión Progreso.
During the inquiries, the abandoned truck of the victims was found in Playa Vicente, Veracruz, as well as Sandra Domínguez's cellphone in El Nigromante. Subsequently, searches were conducted in various properties and ranches, notably one in the ranch "El Capricho" where the arrest of one of those involved in the disappearance took place.
The FGEO identified criminal cells in Veracruz as the main suspects in the disappearance and mentioned a woman, C.E.R.M., who is in preventive custody for the case. Advancements in the investigation must ensure access to justice for the direct and indirect victims and aim to determine if there are more individuals responsible.
Sandra's disappearance had been previously reported due to her participation in an adult chat with Donato Vargas. Following the news of her death, activists and international organizations classified her case along with other cases of enforced disappearances. The fight to clarify this crime continues in the pursuit of justice for the victims and their families.
