Accusations Emerge in Veracruz Health Sector

Governor Rocío Nahle of Veracruz denounces her predecessor Cuitláhuac García for mismanagement in health funds, amid rising tensions within the government and upcoming elections.

Accusations Emerge in Veracruz Health Sector

This week a new scenario of tensions emerged in Veracruz, where the governor, Rocío Nahle, reported her predecessor, Cuitláhuac García, for a multimillion-dollar embezzlement in the health sector. Nahle emphasized the importance of protecting the state's assets and the work done by the Federal Audit.

In the health sector, an embezzlement of 1.6 billion pesos has been detected during the fiscal year 2023. Despite the tensions, Nahle expressed her respect for Cuitláhuac and noted that the allegations will be followed up so that the authorities involved in the health sector are held accountable.

These problems are not isolated, as previously in Morelos, the former Secretary of Energy under AMLO, Margarita González Saravia, reported Cuauhtémoc Blanco for cases of corruption during his administration. Meanwhile, in Veracruz, the tensions add to those that have existed since the last elections, in preparation for the municipal ones in June.

In this regard, the conflict in Morena continues to escalate, with internal problems present in various states. Despite the accusations, Nahle has anticipated that the results of the 2024 audit are still awaited, which could lead to new allegations.

In contrast to the accusations, President Claudia Sheinbaum defended Cuitláhuac García, stating that he is doing a good job in his current role in the federal administration. Despite the tensions, transparency regarding the allegations is expected to be maintained, and the authorities related to the health sector are expected to respond to the claims.
