Agreement Reached Between Government and Bean Producers in Zacatecas

The Zacatecas State Government reached an agreement with bean producers, ending their protest in the main square and freeing space for a cultural festival. Both parties agreed to dialogue to resolve issues regarding the marketing of their harvest.


The State Government reached an agreement with bean producers who were holding a protest in the Plaza de Armas, which allowed for the removal of agricultural machinery and the freeing of the space for the inauguration of the Zacatecas 2026 Cultural Festival. The Secretary of Government, Rodrigo Reyes Mugüerza, reported that this understanding was possible thanks to the disposition and sensitivity of both parties, as well as the efforts led by Governor David Monreal Ávila during the recent visit from the President of Mexico. He detailed that, as part of the agreements, this Sunday a dialogue table will be set up with federal authorities from Food for Wellbeing, with the aim of advancing in the attention to the demands raised by the producers. Reyes Mugüerza explained that this meeting will be the first of several, in which close follow-up will be given to issues such as the procurement of beans, particularly regarding the 1,500 tons corresponding to some 300 producers who are seeking certainty in the marketing of their harvest. 'The commitment of the State Government is to continue insisting so that the Federation actively participates in these tables and a response is given to the legitimate demands of the Zacatecan countryside,' he emphasized. Meanwhile, representatives of the producers expressed their disposition to dialogue and highlighted that their movement has been maintained in a framework of respect and civility. 'We come in a spirit of peace, we are people who work. Our proposal is just and responds to a real need.'
