
The fusion of the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and the homonymous Airport Group has resulted in the appointment of a new director for the country's main air port. José Padilla Olmos, a naval officer, takes over from Rear Admiral José Rivera Parga.
According to the Navy, the new state entity will be under the direction of Padilla Olmos, who has been coordinating the airport activities of the GACM. With the aim of optimizing operations and resources, improving profitability, safety, and air connectivity of the country for the benefit of users, Admiral Padilla Olmos will serve as General Director of the three entities involved and will receive a single economic remuneration for the three positions.
The new AICM director officially began working on Sunday, March 16. After the fusion process, the AICM will act as the concessionaire and operator of the “Benito Juárez” International Airport in Mexico City. In addition, it will take control of the international airports of Ciudad del Carmen, Ciudad Obregón, Guaymas, Loreto, Matamoros, as well as the national airport of Colima.
It was announced that the AICM will also hold shares in the international airports of Toluca and Cuernavaca, and will collaborate with the San Felipe international airport and the national airport of Lázaro Cárdenas. It is expected that gradually other airfields across the national territory will be incorporated into this new unified management.
