Profeco Intensifies Checks Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

The Federal Consumer Prosecutor's Office (Profeco) announced that it has intensified its verification and surveillance operations in commercial establishments as part of the actions prior to the FIFA World Cup 2026. According to the agency, since February 16, it has monitored 9,763 products and conducted 34 surveillance visits and 60 verification inspections in various establishments, including sports goods stores, hotels, travel agencies, restaurants, bars, car rental agencies, and betting centers. These actions are carried out under the “FIFA World Cup 2026-Social World Cup” program, which aims to monitor commercial practices during the preparation for the international event. “With less than 100 days to go until the world championship, Profeco reminds that in any commercial transaction, providers are obligated to inform the final price in a clear and visible manner,” the agency stated. The operations are national in scope, although they are concentrated in entities where activities related to the World Cup trophy are held, including Jalisco, Guanajuato, Veracruz, Nuevo León, Querétaro, Puebla, and Mexico City. Additionally, Profeco has enabled the email denunciasmundial@profeco.gob.mx for consumers to file complaints regarding services or products linked to the tournament. “The FIFA World Cup 2026-Verification and Surveillance Program-Social World Cup is of a national nature,” indicated the Prosecutor's Office.
