Jalisco Extends Free License Plate Exchange Deadline to May 2026

The Ministry of Public Finance of the State of Jalisco announced the extension of the deadline for the free license plate exchange until May 29, 2026. It was reported that this measure is part of a strategy to facilitate the fulfillment of tax obligations for taxpayers who paid their 2025 renewal fee on time. Currently, more than 364,000 taxpayers have not yet completed the process, so they have been granted an additional period to do so at no cost. After the deadline, the exchange will cost approximately four thousand pesos. Taxpayers can go directly to state collection offices from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Requirements include proof of payment of the 2025 renewal, old license plates, a valid official ID, a recent proof of address, and a vehicle verification certificate or a commitment letter. Authorities warned that vehicles continuing to circulate with old plates, such as Maguey, Gota, or Minerva designs, may be subject to sanctions under current regulations. However, the Jalisco State Traffic Police informed that no immediate operations will be carried out related to this procedure.
