The Finance Secretariat of the state of Querétaro reported detecting at least three fraud cases related to the collection of speeding fines on the Fray Junípero Serra Ring Road. The scams were carried out through fake text messages. The head of the department, Gustavo Leal, stated that the victims reported receiving links from what appeared to be official government numbers, demanding payment of fines under the “Clicks de Vida” program. However, the official explained that neither his department nor the Citizen Security Secretariat send text messages to offenders. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and not fall for this scheme. Leal Maya speculated that criminals send these links to install malicious software on victims' devices and steal their information. He also mentioned that last year's collections amounted to 106 million pesos, resulting from 145,000 infractions. “It is important to remember that this is not an administrative procedure or a revenue-generating program; it is primarily an accident prevention program. It is also important to remember that all funds collected from this go directly to security programs,” he concluded.
