Mexico is undergoing an accelerated transformation in its labor market driven by the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), according to the Coursera Skills Report 2026, which documents an exponential growth in digital and business talent training. The report indicates that enrollments in business training programs have increased by 166% in the country, reflecting a large-scale professional retraining process amid the expansion of emerging technologies. AI drives change in the labor market. One of the most relevant findings of the report is an 886% growth in enrollments related to generative AI in the business sphere, which confirms the advancement of this technology beyond technical areas into business and operational functions. Additionally, professional certifications increased by 240%, evidencing the demand for practical skills with market recognition. Key skills in technology and data are growing. The report identifies three strategic areas in expansion: Data, Information Technologies, and Software Development. In this context, enrollments in cloud computing grew by 146%, network security by 130%, and software development by 120%. Enrollments in critical thinking grew by 243%, change management by 146%, and product management by 79%. These competencies become key for the effective implementation of technologies such as artificial intelligence in organizational environments. Economic impact and transformation of work. According to Accenture Research estimates, generative AI could increase Mexico's Gross Domestic Product by approximately 305 billion dollars by 2038. The same analysis warns that up to 40% of working hours could be affected by this technology, which reinforces the need for training and labor transition strategies. Gender gap and inclusion challenges. The report also notes that women represent just over a third of enrollments in technical business programs in Mexico, revealing areas of opportunity for inclusion within technology sectors. Globally, female participation in AI training continues to grow, although still below parity. Mexico enters a new digital phase. The Coursera Report concludes that Mexico is advancing towards a stage of digital maturity, where artificial intelligence ceases to be an experimental tool and is integrated into productive and strategic processes. “The challenge now is not only to adopt the technology, but to develop the necessary skills to leverage it effectively and sustainably,” said Dorota Zawistowska, Director of Enterprises for Latin America at Coursera. In the data area, data analysis (+141%) and SQL (+127%) stand out, consolidating as priority competencies for companies. Human skills are also strengthening.
