President Claudia Sheinbaum launched the Housing for Wellbeing plan in Baja California Sur, aimed at constructing 37,500 new homes and guaranteeing 50,000 titles. This initiative is part of her campaign commitments and seeks to provide dignified housing to the population.
Of the 37,500 new homes, 25,000 will be allocated to non-affiliated individuals through Conavi, including 5,000 rental units for young people. Infonavit will be responsible for building 12,500 homes for affiliated individuals, in addition to granting loans for improving, repairing, or expanding homes.
Sheinbaum also announced that outstanding balances and monthly payments on high-debt loans will be frozen, mortgages for beneficiaries who have settled their balances will be released, and credits for improvements will be granted starting in November. These measures aim to improve the living conditions of the population in Baja California Sur.
The program will be implemented starting in October 2024, with a house-to-house census carried out by Conavi in the state to inform about available programs and loans. The loans, granted by Finabien, will have 0% interest and the monthly payments will not exceed 30% of the beneficiaries' income.
Infonavit will become a construction company, following a constitutional reform presented to the Senate. It is planned to build 500,000 homes nationwide, 25,000 of which will be for beneficiaries in Baja California Sur. Conavi will build 25,000 homes for non-affiliated individuals in various municipalities of the region.
Construction will begin in 2025, with homes of up to 60 square meters and 40 square meters for young people. Socioeconomic studies will be conducted to establish loan amounts and ensure that payments do not exceed 30% of the beneficiaries' income.
