New Integrated Mobility Card in Mexico

The Integrated Mobility Card will be implemented to facilitate transportation between Mexico City and the State of Mexico, although it still faces operational challenges.

New Integrated Mobility Card in Mexico

Recently, the implementation of the Integrated Mobility Card was announced, which will allow residents of Mexico City and the State of Mexico to travel on different transports of both entities without the need for a separate card for each mode, as was the case previously. Although the logo of the new card is already visible on the turnstiles of Mexicable and Mexibús, it is still not possible to use it in these transportation systems, which has generated uncertainty among users.

Users have reported that when trying to use the Integrated Mobility Card at stations in the State of Mexico, the card has been rejected with a message of invalidity. While the process to validate its use in the transportation system of the State of Mexico is still under development, authorities have mentioned significant progress in this regard.

The Secretary of Mobility of the State of Mexico, Daniel Sibaja, pointed out that discussions and processes to implement the card in the State's transportation are at an advanced stage, especially for Mexicable and Mexibús. This integration is expected to simplify the use of different payment methods for public transport in such an interconnected metropolitan area as Mexico City and the State of Mexico, where approximately 8 million daily trips are made.

Although Mexicable and Mexibús do not yet accept the Integrated Mobility Card, authorities from both entities are expected to continue working on the implementation of a unified payment system. No exact date has been confirmed for the activation of this card in these transport systems. On the other hand, the executives of the Suburban Train have indicated that they do not consider the inclusion of the Integrated Mobility Card in their transport system to be viable.
