Mexico Congress Presses for Increase in 2025 Budget

The Senate and the Chamber of Deputies announced a cut in subsidies to parliamentary groups in response to the request for more resources for the year 2025. Despite asking for an increase in the budget, the congress members will be affected by this measure.

According to the Draft Budget of Expenditures for the year 2025 presented by the Executive, a scenario with higher revenues, reduced spending, and decreased deficit is proposed. Of the 13 billion pesos requested, half will be allocated to this item. It is important to highlight that in the elections there is an additional factor: the ballots. For the Court, 81 profiles will need to be presented.

Regarding other aspects of the budget, the areas of spending that will receive the largest increases will be Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development, Infrastructure, Telecommunications and Transport, and non-sectorized entities. Various projects are promoted in cities such as Nuevo Laredo, Nogales, Pachuca, and Naucalpan.

In other news, an external audit of Birmex's financial statements has revealed a lack of clarity in its operations during the first half of the current year. On the other hand, the INE plans to increase the salaries of trainers by 20% to avoid dropouts, according to an announced reform.
