Awareness of the importance of mental health is increasing, leading more people to seek specialized help during times of stress in school, family, or work settings. Despite this, there are still stigmas, especially in cases of violent individuals who do not recognize the need for help.
According to clinical psychologist and coordinator of the specialized psychotherapy group at the State College of Psychologists, Juan Carlos García Ramos, depression and anxiety remain the primary reasons for seeking psychological consultation. These issues can be caused by various factors such as physical illnesses, neurotic behaviors, dysfunctional family relationships, losses, or traumatic events.
Additionally, there has been an increase in issues related to sexual behavior, ranging from childhood sexual abuse to risk behaviors in adolescents and discussions about sexual conduct in adult couples. Developmental disorders are also on the rise, possibly as a result of various factors, including the impacts of the pandemic on childhood and adolescence.
The Queretano Psychological Board reported that during the past year, cases of anxiety, self-esteem, depression, behavioral problems, emotional management, stress, and sexual diversity accounted for 56.62% of the consultations addressed, followed by situations of depression, grief, suicide, bullying, family and relationship problems, and post-traumatic stress. It is essential to continue generating statistics to understand and effectively address mental health issues, as it is estimated that around 30% of the population in Querétaro faces some type of difficulty in this area.
