Villahermosa Faces Serious Security Concerns

The city of Villahermosa is grappling with severe security issues due to organized crime disputes. Recent data shows 90.6% of residents feel unsafe, increasing public concern.

The city of Villahermosa is at the center of a dispute between criminal groups seeking to control territory for drug and human trafficking from Central America. According to the National Urban Public Security Survey (ENSU) published by Inegi, Villahermosa has been categorized as the city where Mexicans feel most unsafe, with an alarming 90.6 percent of the population reporting feeling insecure.

The capital of Tabasco has again been the scene of violence. Recently, two people were found executed at different locations in the city. One of the bodies was discovered wrapped in black bags in front of the Tabasco State Social Reintegration Center (CRESET), alongside a vehicle with bullet impacts and a threatening poster signed by "united people." In another incident, a second body was found in the Casablanca neighborhood, although it is unknown if both crimes are related.

These events coincide with the birthday of the state governor, Javier May Rodríguez. The climate of insecurity in the city was exacerbated by an armed attack during a private party at Las Jardineras de Wendy, where five people lost their lives. In an attack carried out by an armed group that burst into the birthday celebration, a shooting erupted in which about 40 people were present.
