Heat Wave and Rains: Contrasting Weather in Mexico

Mexico is experiencing a week of extreme weather contrasts. While the north suffers from a severe heat wave with temperatures up to 45°C, the west, center, and southeast are being refreshed by heavy rains. The National Weather Service warns of health risks and recommends taking precautions.

This week in Mexico, it will be a tough choice: either a fan or a raincoat. The weather will not give a break. To get information about the current meteorological phenomena in Mexico and their effects on the country tonight and tomorrow, refer to official sources. The northern and western regions of the country will be the most affected. Below are the states that should be prepared for high electricity bills, as the use of fans will become a necessity. Maximum temperatures of 40 to 45 degrees: Sonora (center and east), Chihuahua (southwest), Durango (northwest), Sinaloa (north), and Guerrero (northwest). Maximum temperatures of 35 to 40 degrees: Baja California, Baja California Sur, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Coahuila (north), Morelos, Puebla (southwest), Oaxaca, Chiapas, Campeche, and Yucatán. Maximum temperatures of 30 to 35 degrees: Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Zacatecas (south), San Luis Potosí (east), Veracruz (north and south), Tabasco, and Quintana Roo. These conditions are due to the dominance of an anticyclone, which limits the formation of significant cloudiness and favors mostly clear skies, allowing solar radiation to considerably raise temperatures during the day. Today, in zones of 6 states of the country, the heat wave will continue. Stay well hydrated! While the northern states will live through a 'spring hell', the western, central, eastern, and southeastern states of the country will cool off with heavy rains and showers in the coming days. The precipitation is due to the presence of a front at altitude, combined with the entry of moisture from the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, which will cause rains and showers with possible electrical discharges in these regions. Heavy punctual rains (25 to 50 mm) are expected in Puebla, Veracruz, and Oaxaca. In addition, showers are expected in Chiapas, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Mexico City, State of Mexico, Tabasco, Campeche, and Quintana Roo. Mexico will have a week of contrasts: while the heat will press hard in the north due to the heat wave, in other regions the umbrella will be the best ally against the rains. While 'blessed spring' will arrive in several states of the country with heavy rains and showers, in other regions they will suffer the ravages of the heat in the first days of the season. The National Meteorological Service (SMN) reported that an anticyclonic circulation in the middle levels of the atmosphere will cause a heat wave in most of the national territory. According to the meteorological authorities, this condition will cause maximum temperatures to reach between 40 and 45 degrees in entities in the north, west, and south of the country. Faced with the intense heat wave in Mexico, the authorities recommend taking precautions against prolonged sun exposure and staying hydrated. Which states will record the highest temperatures during the week? According to the SMN's 96-hour report, the highest temperatures will be recorded in more than 25 states, where values between 30 and 45 degrees are expected.
