Chivas Player Facing Suspension for Betting

Alan Mozo, a Chivas player, is under investigation for promoting sports betting on social media. He could be banned for up to 3 years by FIFA.

Chivas Player Facing Suspension for Betting

A player from the Chivas team is under the scrutiny of Mexican football authorities for promoting sports betting, which could lead him to face a sanction of up to three years of suspension if found guilty, according to FIFA regulations. According to FIFA's Code of Ethics, players are prohibited from participating in betting, gambling, or activities related to football, either directly or indirectly.

This case has generated significant concern at Club Chivas, as it could result in a sanction affecting both the player in question and the team's infrastructure. Liga MX recently experienced an embarrassing episode with the suspension of seven players from the Premier League for 57 years due to matters related to sports betting. Now, another case of this kind arises within Chivas, with one of its starting players at the center of the controversy.

Alan Mozo, a Mexican full-back from Chivas, has become involved in this controversy by sharing photos and videos promoting sports betting on his social media accounts. Through his Instagram account, Mozo posted messages and links directing to a group on a messaging application where different sports bets were offered. These actions go against what is established in Article 26 of FIFA's Code of Ethics, which prohibits affiliates from having any type of relationship with sports betting and gambling.

If found guilty, Mozo risks receiving a sanction that includes fines of up to 100,000 CHF and a possible disqualification of up to three years. This could jeopardize the player's continuity as a fundamental part of Chivas, which would be a blow to the team, especially after the defender recently reached 100 matches with the team, albeit without having won titles. The promotion of sports betting could have serious consequences not only for Mozo but also for the prestige and integrity of the club.
