President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that she has requested the Attorney General's Office of the Republic (FGR), led by Alejandro Gertz Manero, to take on the cases related to the discovery of extermination sites in the state of Jalisco. Sheinbaum mentioned that the prosecutor is correct in several aspects but considers it essential to thoroughly investigate what happened in those places. She emphasized the need to carry out a coordinated investigation to clarify the facts and determine the corresponding responsibilities.
On Tuesday, Gertz Manero had anticipated that the FGR would investigate the discovery of extermination sites and clandestine crematories in Jalisco, following the established protocol for such cases. In a conference at the National Palace, he pointed out that this discovery should generate a significant reflection on the importance of combating local jurisdiction crimes. He underlined the importance of thoroughly investigating the history behind these places before the FGR takes on the case.
President Sheinbaum highlighted that the revelation of these facts provides an opportunity to reinforce the responsibility of local authorities in preventing common crimes. She also stressed that it is crucial to determine the responsibilities linked to the discovered mass graves, emphasizing the importance of clarifying the facts and presenting a detailed report on the matter. Sheinbaum formalized her request for the FGR to immediately take over these cases and conduct the necessary investigations.
