Claudia Sheinbaum challenged Ernesto Zedillo after he criticized her, stating that the pension he receives from Banxico was agreed upon after his term and accusing him of corruption due to Fobaproa. Ernesto Zedillo has criticized the decisions of the current administration and proposed auditing projects such as the NAICM, the Dos Bocas refinery, and the Maya Train. Furthermore, he argued that citizens have the right to know the costs and benefits of these projects. Zedillo also expressed his concern about the judicial reform in Mexico, considering it a democratic setback.
On her part, Claudia Sheinbaum has requested an investigation into Zedillo's pension, mentioning that he seeks to divert attention from the damage caused by past projects. Zedillo responded by claiming he deserves his retirement for his years of service and accused Sheinbaum of attempting to distract citizens from the negative effects of the projects promoted in the previous administration.
Regarding judicial reform, Zedillo described it as a shift towards a despotic regime of a hegemonic party, lamenting the transformation of democracy in Mexico. He expressed his concerns about possible fraud and abuses in the Constitution. Sheinbaum, on the other hand, has been criticized for focusing on past governments rather than addressing current issues and for her stance on democracy in the country.
