Jalisco Government Takes Control of Tequila Police

The Government of Jalisco has provisionally taken over the actions of supervision and vigilance in the municipality of Tequila, following an operational, administrative, and confidence control review applied to the municipal police corporation, reported the State Secretariat of Security.

According to a press release, vigilance in the "Magical Town" was left in the hands of the State Police, through a temporarily appointed state command, which is making operational adjustments in coordination with the commanders of the Municipal Police as part of the intervention scheme.

For these tasks, around 50 elements of the Regional, Tourist, and State Highway Police were deployed in the municipality, supported by 11 patrol cars.

Additionally, convoy patrols were established with the joint participation of the State Police, Municipal Police, National Guard, and personnel from the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena).

During the weapon inspection carried out on the municipal corporation, the authorities located a .50 caliber cartridge, which was identified as foreign to the corporation, as well as a glove.

Similarly, after inspecting the units and the administrative situation, no serious irregularities were detected, although observations were made that were recorded in administrative minutes.

In terms of control and confidence, the Secretariat of Security reported that a total of 147 elements of the Tequila Municipal Police were evaluated.

As a result, 16 police officers obtained a "not approved" status; another 18 were classified as "not approved with the possibility of re-evaluation," while the rest have approved exams, both current and expired, so they will be summoned to update them.

Derived from these results, the not-approved elements were removed from operational functions on public roads and made available to the appointed state command to perform administrative tasks.

According to the protocol, due to the lack of the corresponding certification, a procedure will be initiated that could lead to their definitive discharge from the corporation.

Likewise, the State Security Council will schedule new evaluations to regularize the situation of the police personnel and strengthen the security force in the municipality, as part of the supervision process.

The State Secretariat of Security informed that these actions are part of a vigilance and control strategy to guarantee security in Tequila, while maintaining coordination between the different levels of government.
