Mexico has sent over 814 tons of humanitarian aid to Cuba as part of its policy of international cooperation and solidarity with Latin American countries. The shipment was made through the Mexican Navy in compliance with an instruction from President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The humanitarian aid is being transported by the Papaloapan and Isla Holbox support vessels, which departed today from the port of Veracruz to the Caribbean island. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), «humanitarian aid is being sent to the Republic of Cuba through the Papaloapan and Isla Holbox support vessels, carrying a load of more than 814 tons of foodstuffs intended for the civilian population». The supplies were previously concentrated at the dock of the National Port Administration (Asipona) Veracruz, from where the loading was carried out. The Papaloapan vessel is transporting approximately 536 tons of food and hygiene items, including liquid milk, meat products, rice, beans, cookies, tuna, sardines, and vegetable oil. Meanwhile, the Isla Holbox vessel is carrying over 277 tons of powdered milk. Authorities detailed that the Papaloapan departed at 8:00 AM and the Isla Holbox at noon, with an estimated arrival time of four days. Additionally, it was reported that over 1,500 more tons of powdered milk and beans are pending shipment. The SRE highlighted that Mexico maintains a tradition of supporting peoples facing emergency situations, and recalled that in recent months, aid has also been provided for fires, floods, and natural disasters in various countries. «With these actions, the Government of Mexico reaffirms the humanistic principles and the vocation of solidarity that guide it,» the department stated.
