The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, has announced an additional five percent reduction in government costs as part of the republican austerity policy. This measure is being carried out within the framework of the amendment to the Organic Law, which will be sent to the Congress of the Union for discussion and approval.
In a conference from the National Palace, Sheinbaum explained that, along with cost reductions, the creation of three new government agencies will begin operating from January 1, 2025. These new entities are the Secretariat of Women, the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation, and the Digital Transformation Agency.
The president highlighted that, despite these new secretariats, government costs for the Mexican people will continue to decrease, following the principle that "There cannot be a rich government with a poor people." The creation of these agencies involves reorganizing functions and integrating dispersed areas into a single entity, with the aim of improving efficiency and resource targeting.
Regarding who will be in charge of the new secretariats, it has been announced that Citlalli Hernández Mora will be the head of the Secretariat of Women, which was previously known as the National Institute of Women. The Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation will be led by scientist Rosaura Ruiz, while the Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency will be under the responsibility of José Antonio Peña Merino.
These new agencies aim not only to reduce administrative costs but also to promote efficiency in government management and advance the digitization of procedures, in line with austerity and modernization policies of the State.
