During a morning press conference, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, highlighted a change in the country's economic model since 2018, based on republican austerity, public investment, and social programs. Sheinbaum mentioned that they are working on an important project with the economic cabinet, with numerous investments planned for Mexico in 2025.
Rogelio Ramírez de la O, Secretary of Finance, stated that he will present an austere project, which the president considers solid. In response to inquiries about a potential tax reform, Sheinbaum mentioned that this year minor adjustments will be made to the miscellaneous and that by 2025 they will focus on strengthening revenue collection at customs and combating tax evasion.
Regarding the reform on substantive equality, gender perspective, and women's rights, it was reported that it was approved in the Chamber of Deputies and Senators, as well as in local Congresses, allowing the president to sign the decree for publication in the Official Journal of the Federation.
The corresponding secondary laws are being worked on by committees of female legislators. Sheinbaum referred to this event as historic and stated that the reforms mean that women are now enshrined in the Constitution.
On the other hand, after the rating agency Moody's changed Mexico's rating outlook from 'stable' to 'negative', Sheinbaum expressed in a press conference that the Mexican economy is in a solid position, highlighting Toyota's recent investment in the country as evidence of this.
The president also addressed the use of a helicopter by legislator Ricardo Monreal, emphasizing the importance of setting an example for society in matters of austerity. Sheinbaum stressed that the government must be an austere model, noting that Monreal began using a motorcycle as a means of transportation after criticism for using the helicopter.
