11 Dead in Sinaloa Cartel Operation, Leader's Daughter Released

Mexico's Security Cabinet reported on Thursday an operation in Sinaloa (west) that left 11 alleged criminals dead and in which a daughter of El Mayo Zambada, leader of the Sinaloa Cartel imprisoned in the United States, was detained and subsequently released, amid the wave of violence plaguing the Mexican state. According to authorities, the military deployment was carried out in various municipalities of Sinaloa and included an intervention at a home apparently linked to the criminal faction known as Los Mayos. In Sinaloa and its capital, Culiacán, a violent internal struggle of the Sinaloa Cartel has been raging since the end of 2024. Washington declared the group a terrorist organization last year following the arrest in July of Ismael 'el Mayo' Zambada, the organization's co-founder, after Joaquín Guzmán López, one of 'El Chapo' Guzmán's sons and leader of the Los Chapitos group, turned him over to the United States.
