With the imminent arrival of the hot and humid season, caused by recent rains in the State, the municipality of Guadalupe has launched a special health operation to curb the proliferation of dengue. It will directly attack the reproduction of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, transmitter of diseases such as dengue, Zika, and chikungunya. Silvia Múzquiz, municipal Health Secretary, reported that efforts have been doubled in the most vulnerable areas of the city in recent weeks. Actions include: Intensive waste removal campaigns. Weed control. Fumigation. These operations are carried out in sectors that, according to historical records, present a higher incidence of these ailments. Zero cases. At the start of these activities, the official highlighted the importance of preventive anticipation and institutional coordination. “We are in constant contact with the State Health Secretariat, reviewing all those colonies that are priorities,” expressed the municipal official. “For the moment we have zero cases of dengue in 2026, but we base it on the history of those colonies that could present it.” In addition to cleaning and fumigation work, the municipality is carrying out a citizen awareness strategy that includes informational talks in various colonies. In these meetings, neighbors are instructed on the importance of keeping their spaces clean and the need to “flip over” any container that can accumulate water and become a mosquito breeding ground. The Health Secretary made a call for individual responsibility and timely attention to symptoms. Múzquiz urged the population that, in the presence of fever, conjunctivitis, or intense eye pain, to go immediately to their nearest clinic to receive adequate medical evaluation. Symptoms of dengue. Sudden high fever. Intense pain behind the eyes (retro-orbital). Muscle, joint, and bone pain (“breakbone fever”). Rash (skin eruptions). Nausea and vomiting. Extreme fatigue and headache. Severe dengue. Symptoms appear between three to seven days after the onset of symptoms, when the fever subsides. Severe and persistent abdominal pain. Persistent vomiting. Nosebleeds, gum bleeding, or internal bleeding. Drowsiness, lethargy, irritability, or confusion. Pale, cold, or clammy skin.
