Alarming videos have circulated on social media showing people taking cover from shootings in public places. According to data collected during the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum, between October 1 and 27, Sinaloa has emerged as the second state with the highest number of homicides, with a total of 172 cases, surpassing Guanajuato, which held the first place with 268 murders.

The Security Report from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection reveals that during a particular weekend (from Friday, October 25 to Sunday, October 27), the country recorded 239 homicides. Sinaloa, under the government of Rubén Rocha Moya, stood out with 36 murders in that period, becoming the entity with the highest number of crimes in those three days. Guanajuato ranked second with 28 homicides, followed by Guerrero with 21 and Chihuahua with 19.

Other states that reported high homicide rates were the State of Mexico with 18, Tabasco with 13, and Mexico City with 12, the latter experiencing a surge in violence due to disputes between La Unión Tepito and Anti Unión Tepito. Sinaloa has been engulfed in a spiral of violence since September 9 due to the conflict between Los Chapitos and La Mayiza, two factions of the Sinaloa Cartel.

During the weekend in Sinaloa, there were scenes of extreme violence that included homicides, kidnappings, and shootings. For example, in Mazatlán, the murder of a man traveling in a bulletproof Jeep Grand Cherokee was reported on Óscar Pérez Escobosa Avenue in El Venadillo, where a taxi driver was also injured.
