The Mexican state of Puebla ranked fifth in insured vehicle theft, with 3,445 cases reported from March 2025 to February 2026. However, according to data from the Mexican Association of Insurance Institutions (AMIS), the state saw a 25.3% decrease compared to the previous period. This means that, on average, approximately nine vehicle thefts were recorded daily in the state during this time. Although the number is significant, 1,940 vehicles were recovered in the same period, which accounts for 56.3%. This places the state third in the country for the number of recovered units by February 2026. In contrast, during the 2024-2025 period, 2,362 vehicles were recovered.
Regarding violence during thefts, the Puebla entity ranked fourth, with 2,338 units stolen with some form of aggression, meaning six out of every ten insured vehicle thefts involved violence. Among the 15 municipalities with the highest number of insured vehicles stolen with violence, the state capital ranked fourth nationally with 763 cases, representing a violence rate of 59.9%. The top spot went to Culiacán with 2,655 thefts and an 87% violence rate, while Ecatepec recorded 1,205 stolen vehicles with a 69% violence rate. It is worth noting that the national average for violence in vehicle thefts was 54.5%.
