New administration in Puebla will manage the modernization of transportation

The Mobility and Transport Secretariat of Puebla has informed that the management of the credits intended for the modernization of public transport will be the responsibility of the next administration, led by Alejandro Armenta Mier, due to the wait for the release of 350 million pesos. Omar García Arronte, head of the SMT, mentioned that a reimbursement of interest resources has been requested from Nacional Financiera (Nafin) to establish a fund intended for financial bonds in exchange for vehicle renewal established since 2017.

Regarding financing, the aim is for public transport concessionaires to be able to renew units that are more than 10 years old, and so far, 176 transporters have registered as interested in accessing this support. Their documents are already under evaluation by the authorities to verify their eligibility according to the established requirements. Priority will be given to those transporters who comply with the Transport Law and provide the service required by the population.

The release of the funds is in process, and according to Governor Sergio Céspedes Peregrina, it is likely that Armenta Mier's administration, which will begin on December 15, will be in charge of these resources. Céspedes Peregrina mentioned that the next administration will have the responsibility of consolidating this program, although advances in management have been made by the current government.

The modernization program for units includes options for taxis, buses, and trucks, prioritizing hybrid, electric, and diesel technologies. On the other hand, García Arronte pointed out that approximately four thousand units still have video surveillance cameras from external providers and connection tests are being conducted with the security system Plan Centinela in collaboration with technical personnel from C5.

Regarding the fare increase, Javier Aquino Limón, Secretary of Governance, mentioned that the negotiations with the transporters have been complex and that the meeting scheduled to discuss this issue was canceled due to scheduling problems; however, it has been rescheduled for this Tuesday.
