Corruption Scandal Leads to Official's Dismissal in Querétaro

The municipal president of Querétaro, Felipe Fernando Macías Olvera, announced the separation of Ángel Rodríguez Cevallos from his position as director of municipal inspection. This is due to the discovery that Rodríguez Cevallos was listed as the holder of the operating license for a bar where a violent incident occurred on November 7, days before an attack at the Cantaritos nightclub that left 10 people dead and 13 injured.

"Being a public official does not imply being involved in corruption cases," said the municipal president while explaining that Rodríguez Cevallos' presence as the holder of the license for that bar presented an obvious conflict of interest. Macías Olvera emphasized that no inspector can be both judge and party in such situations, which is why the decision was made to dismiss Rodríguez Cevallos.

The detection of the conflict of interest arose after the recent violent events in Centro Sur, where four alleged hitmen were linked to the crime. Ángel Rodríguez Cevallos' name on the operating license emerged after the tragic events at the bar, which was closed at the time of the murders.

Regarding the attack at the Cantaritos bar, federal Security Secretary Omar García detailed that the armed aggression was carried out by three individuals in a truck, resulting in the death of 10 people. García mentioned that one of the victims, Fernando 'N', was linked to a criminal cell, and that the incident was related to another that occurred on November 7 at a restaurant where three people died, revealing a rivalry between two criminal groups.
