Significant Changes in Querétaro's Judicial System

In Querétaro, the controversial custody of a 14-year-old rape victim has led to major resignations, including a judge. The Congress is taking action to ensure better treatment for victims and reform judicial processes.

Significant Changes in Querétaro's Judicial System

The prosecutor of Querétaro, Víctor Antonio de Jesús Hernández, has been exposed after it was revealed that he had placed a 14-year-old girl, a victim of rape, under house arrest for "intentional homicide." This situation generated strong criticism that led to the resignation of the judge in charge of the case, who also resigned from her retirement, thus stripping the official criticisms of arguments.

The deputies from Morena, PT, and PVEM, fearing protests and blockades, arrived early at their offices in the Legislative Palace of San Lázaro at five in the morning. Although there were no judicial demonstrators, the police forces of CDMX were prepared to intervene if necessary.

On another front, the head of the Ministry of Women, Citlalli Hernández, announced that the prosecutor's office has decided to drop all charges against the girl. This news has generated controversy, especially concerning the pensions of retired ministers and the resources allocated for the election of judges.

The resignations of Margarita Ríos Farjat and Juan Luis González Alcántara Carranca have been critical and direct, especially in the case of the minister, who admitted his mistake in believing that reason would prevail over passions. On the other hand, it has been announced that the state and federal governments will provide comprehensive support to the affected minor and will train the prosecutor's office staff in gender perspective.
