Violent Attack in Querétaro Bar Linked to Drug Cartels

On November 12, 2024, it was confirmed that two members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) were targeted in an attack at the Los Cantaritos bar in Querétaro, resulting in the death of three people and three others injured. Omar García Harfuch, head of the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Protection (SSPC), linked this event to a series of vendettas between the Lima Cartel and the CJNG.

In a conference, Omar García Harfuch explained that the shooting was the result of a dispute over control of fuel theft in the state between both cartels. He detailed that the assailants arrived in a truck, asked for a specific individual, and then opened fire on a group of people in the bar.

The victims of the attack at Los Cantaritos bar were identified as Fátima, Berenice, Angie, Rodrigo, Jesús Alberto, Arturo, Giovanni, Carlos, Diego, and Fernando. This incident was related to three previous events in Querétaro and Guanajuato, including the attack at the Mr. Barbas restaurant on November 7, where three people lost their lives.

According to García Harfuch, these events are linked to a dispute between cartels that has caused a series of attacks in the region. The violence between these two criminal factions has left a trail of blood in the state, putting the safety of citizens at risk and generating a climate of insecurity.
