The Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of Mexico, Omar García Harfuch, reported that the shooting at the Los Cantaritos bar in Querétaro, where 10 people died and another 13 were injured, was the result of a confrontation between criminal cells of the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel (CSRL) and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in the region.
In a conference, García Harfuch revealed that one of the fatal victims was Fernando G., alias “La Flaca,” linked to the criminal group from Jalisco and the target of the shooting, along with his associate, Jesús Alberto A., who was also involved in criminal activities. Additionally, the attack was said to be related to other violent events between the two criminal groups in the area, including one on Thursday, November 7, at another establishment where 3 people died.
The official detailed that the attack at the Los Cantaritos bar was carried out when three individuals with long guns, allegedly from the CSRL, arrived at the location around 9:20 PM on Saturday, November 9. Although a specific inquiry was initially made about Fernando G., one of them began to shoot indiscriminately at those present.
In connection with the case, two vehicles have been seized and one person is in custody of the Attorney General's Office of the State. García Harfuch mentioned that due to it being a homicide, the investigation is under the local prosecutor's charge, but the Secretariat of Security is collaborating with the Attorney General's Office of the Republic to provide all necessary capabilities.
Subsequently, the secretary met in Mexico City with the governor of Querétaro, Mauricio Kuri, to follow up on the advances in the investigations of the case and to coordinate efforts between both entities.
