In Salamanca and surrounding municipalities, aggressions against people searching for their missing relatives have been registered, such as the case of Lorenza Cano, a member of the same collective, who was kidnapped in January 2024 during an armed attack in which her husband and son were killed. So far, the Guanajuato Prosecutor's Office has not reported any arrests or progress in the García Ramblas case. According to Article 19, at least 35 searchers have been killed in Mexico since 2010. The country has over 132,000 missing persons, and thousands of families continue their search efforts due to the lack of security and justice guarantees from the authorities. "Appointing Cecilia is demanding justice. We do not know why this situation occurred," stated to the media Alma Tapia, a spokesperson for the group. The young woman was violently abducted on the night of March 14 by unknown individuals, which activated alerts among regional collectives. Five days later, authorities were notified of the discovery of two bodies near Valtierrilla, but the official identification of García Ramblas came almost two weeks later. The murder of Cecilia is not an isolated incident. The organization Article 19 expressed this Thursday its "deep indignation" over the murder of Cecilia García Ramblas, a young member of the collective Salamanca Unidos Buscando Desaparecidos, who was found dead in Salamanca, Guanajuato. "Article 19 expresses deep indignation and condemns the murder of Cecilia García Ramblas, a person searching for the disappeared in Salamanca, Guanajuato," the organization stated in a social media post. The organization thus referred to the crime, reported on Monday by local media, of the young woman, who was located without life on March 19 on a dirt road near the Puerto de Valle community in Guanajuato, after being deprived of her liberty five days earlier. Her death was officially confirmed by the state Prosecutor's Office on March 31, a delay that organizations and families consider a sign of institutional negligence. "This delay reflects the institutional negligence that victims and their families face," the organization stated, demanding an "immediate, impartial, and exhaustive" investigation with a gender perspective and urgent protection measures for search collectives. Since 2021 to date, Cecilia participated in marches, search operations, and accompaniment for other families, even after authorities located her brother's body in 2025 on the border of Irapuato and Silao. "Ceci joined the collective after her brother's disappearance. Memory and dignity are not silenced," the organization concluded. The case is part of the national crisis of disappearances, where, according to official figures, the country has 132,534 registered missing and unlocated persons, of which 130,178 correspond to the period from 2006 to the present. She participated with us on several occasions.
