Family of 'Fofo' Márquez to File Appeal

The case of 'Fofo' Márquez has not yet come to an end, as the influencer's family announced this Monday that they plan to file an appeal against the sentence of 17 years and six months in prison. Originally, 'Fofo' was to serve his sentence in the Barrientos prison, but a video showing how he was beaten by guards in January resulted in his transfer to the Texcoco Penitentiary and Social Reintegration Center (CPRS).

The Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico has initiated an investigation to clarify the incident captured on video where 'Fofo' was assaulted, recorded in April 2024. In a recent hearing at the Barrientos courts, it was revealed that Rodolfo Márquez's defense is preparing an amparo to try to change or reduce his sentence.

In statements to the media, Rodrigo Márquez, 'Fofo's' brother, mentioned that the hearing was conducted remotely and a period of 10 days was given to present the appeal. Regarding 'Fofo’s' transfer to Texcoco, Rodrigo mentioned that he is calmer and under surveillance in the new prison.

About the incident that resulted in the conviction, 'Fofo' was found guilty of attempted feminicide after assaulting a woman in a parking lot in Naucalpan. The judge ordered a fine, reparations for damages, and psychological treatment. It was argued that 'Fofo' stopped attacking the victim only when others intervened and that he stated he did not want to hurt her, although something compelled him to attack her.
