Regio Power and PAN's Political Maneuvering in Mexico

Regio Power seeks political refuge in the PAN party after registration difficulties, reflecting the complex ties between business groups and political forces in Nuevo León.

Regio Power and PAN's Political Maneuvering in Mexico

After the National Action Party (PAN) opened the door to citizen candidacies, actors from Regio Power approached the leaders of the albiazul party. This situation reportedly distanced them from business leaders and, more recently, from the Regio Power association itself. In fact, other actors have joined the movement in recent months, taking on leadership roles like Fernando Canales Stelzer—who is worth noting, is a marginal figure in various state political groups—and there has been a notable absence of Salazar Lomelín in the movement's operation. LPO had previously reported on the former head of the CCE's unsuccessful attempt to get closer to PAN. However, Regio Power is taking advantage of the albiazul's lack of profiles and the citizen openness announced by national leader Jorge Romero. Many of its members were independent candidates when the non-partisan movement was at its peak, but now they are seeking a platform that, they say, has been obstructed by political actors. However, sources close to the IEEPC hinted to this editorial that the registration problems were caused by their new leader, Carlos Salazar Lomelín, including a lack of signatures, signatures from minors, and other circumstances. Previously, their registration with the Nuevo León State Electoral Institute was complicated, and they are seeking avenues for participation in the 2027 elections. According to what LPO could find out, days ago leaders of the political association, such as Juan Pérez Góngora, met with actors from the San Nicolás Group with the aim of strengthening ties between both parties. The reality is that they were never distant: businessmen have always maintained ties with panismo and vice versa. This is happening amid Regio Power's difficulties in registering as a political party.
